The Council currently occupies a leased building at Dinerth Road, with over 350 staff currently based at this site. The lease has now come to an end and the Council has negotiated an extension to the lease until the new office is delivered. In addition to the lease issues at Dinerth Road, the Council has, over recent years, been reviewing its buildings and looking at ways to operate more efficiently and improve services for customers by consolidating staff and services on to fewer sites. This project could potentially replace up to thirteen existing inefficient and poor performing offices and reduce the Council's accommodation and carbon footprint.
As well as being part of the Council's Modernisation Programme, this new office also supports the regeneration of Colwyn Bay. Bringing people in to the heart of Colwyn Bay will bring vitality, footfall and an anticipated additional spend in the town of up to £1m by people using this new building.
Muse Developments have appointed Bowmer and Kirkland (B & K) as the main contractor to build the offices in Colwyn Bay, and provide a new surface car park at Parc Eirias to mitigate the loss of events parking at the Civic Centre offices. B & K took over the town centre site in early November 2016 in order to commence works. The proposed timetable is as follows:
Demolition of existing town centre site: November 2016 – March 2017
Construction of New Office: April 2017 to October 2018.
Construction of Surface Car Park, Parc Eirias: March 2017 – July 2017.
Management & Occupation of New Office
A Project has been set up to manage our services moving into the new building in Colwyn Bay. The Project Team will make sure that the tasks and decisions associated with moving into and managing the new offices are carried out in a timely manner. The aim is to ensure business continuity and to minimize the impact of the changes on the public. All the Services that are scheduled to move into the new offices are represented on the Project Team.
