We will be carrying out essential website maintenance in the afternoon which will affect some functionality. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience the work may cause and will do all we can to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

If you have found a stray dog:

  • Check for a tag and use the details on it to contact the owner.
  • If there is no tag, or if you cannot reach the owner, you can report the stray dog to us online or over the phone.

Report a stray dog

By phone

To report a stray dog over the phone, you can call us on:

  • 01492 575222 during office hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm)
  • 0300 123 3079 outside office hours

Collection of stray dogs

  • If the stray dog has its owners' contact details on a collar and tag or a microchip, we will return it to its owners where possible.
  • If the owner cannot be contacted, or if the dog has no identification or microchip, it will be taken to Nant y Corn Kennels (external website) for a minimum of 7 days.

If the dog is not claimed within seven days, then it may be re-homed or humanely destroyed.

Found dog charges

When you claim your dog, you will have to pay a fee to cover our costs for picking up and kennelling your dog.  This fee includes a statutory amount (set by Government).

  • Statutory fee:  £75 (including collection)
  • Kennel fees:  £15 per dog per day (any part of the day will be charged as a full day)
  • Out of hours fee:  £30 (if your dog is taken to kennels out of hours)

The total charge for a minimum 7 day stay in kennels:  £190 (including the statutory and collection fee)

You may also have to pay additional veterinary fees, and out of hours fee if applicable.
