Unoccupied Property Rating

Owners of unoccupied non-domestic properties may be liable to empty property rates which are charged at 100% of the normal liability. Liability begins after the property has been empty for 3 months.

Or in the case of factories and warehouses, after the property has been empty for 6 months.

Certain types of property, are exempt from empty property rates.

With effect from 1 April, 2011 all empty properties with a Rateable Value of under £2,600 are exempt from empty property rates.

Seasonal Use

If you only use your property during the season, this is taken into account when the rateable value of the property is calculated. There is no extra reduction given during the winter months if you don't open for business.
