Course overview
The course is a refresher for the lifesaving skills and includes:
- Understanding the role of the first aider, acting safely, cross infection, recording incidents, available equipment and its use
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to access and use an AED (Defibrillator)
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking, wounded or suffering from shock
- Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries, small cuts, grazes, minor burns and scalds
- Administer first aid to a casualty with, injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries, chest injuries, burns and scalds, eye injuries, sudden poisoning, anaphylactic shock
- Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including, heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes
- Formative and Summative assessments will take place during the course in order to verify that the learning objectives have been achieved.
