At their meeting on 11th November 2025 Conwy County Borough Council Cabinet approved that the proposal to amalgamate Ysgol T Gwynn Jones and Ysgol Iau Hen Golwyn be moved forward to the statutory notice stage.
Whether or not objections are received within the statutory period; the proposal will be determined by the Authority at the end of the 28-day objection period.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN in accordance with Section 41 and 43 of the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013 and the School Organisation Code 2018 that Conwy County Borough Council, having consulted such persons as required, propose as indicated below:
1. Conwy County Borough Council propose to establish a new English Medium, mixed sex school to be maintained by Conwy County Borough Council on the sites of the existing Ysgol T Gwynn Jones and Ysgol Iau Hen Golwyn schools, for pupils aged between 3-11 years old.
As a result of the proposals outlined above:
2. Conwy County Borough Council propose to discontinue YSGOL T GWYNN JONES, LLANELIAN ROAD, OLD COLWYN, COLWYN BAY, LL29 9UA. The school is currently maintained by Conwy County Borough Council. It is proposed to implement this proposal on 31 August 2027.
3. Conwy County Borough Council propose to discontinue YSGOL IAU HEN GOLWYN, CHURCH WALKS, OLD COLWYN, COLWYN BAY, LL29 9RU. The school is currently maintained by Conwy County Borough Council. It is proposed to implement this proposal on 31 August 2027.

At the meeting on 13th May 2025, Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet granted approval to proceed to consultation on the proposal to amalgamate Ysgol T Gwynn Jones and Ysgol Iau Hen Golwyn.
This period of consultation will last from 3rd June 2025 until the 15th July 2025.
The Council will carefully consider any comments and observations made in writing by this date.
As a result of the consultation the Council may decide not to proceed any further with the proposal or to go ahead with the proposal or a modified version of it. Any formal proposal would be set out and published in the form of a public statutory notice.
The Council has the powers to propose expansions or closures of schools. If proposals are published following this period of consultation, there then follows a statutory 28-day period during which further representations and formal objections can be made.
Any responses during the Consultation will not be regarded as formal objections. To have responses considered as statutory objections they must be made in writing or by email within the 28-day objection period.
Whether or not objections are received within the statutory period, the proposal will be determined by the Authority at the end of the 28-day objection period. Conwy Cabinet is expected to determine this publication in September/October 2025.

Conwy County Borough Council will publish a consultation report for Cabinet consideration in the Autumn School Term.
