An adaptation is an alteration or piece of equipment which makes it easier and safer for you to live in your home.
Adaptations vary according to your needs and can range from a simple grab rail to adding extra space. If you’re eligible, we can help with the cost.
Disabled Facilities Grant
Welsh Government has set a maximum limit for disabled facilities adaptations under the Disabled Facilities Grant of £36,000. Each case is assessed on its own merit, but may be reduced if you are expected to contribute towards the cost of the work.
You can apply for a disabled facilities grant if you are:
- A homeowner
- A tenant renting from a private landlord
- A permanent resident of a park home
- Living on a houseboat
If you are a housing association tenant contact your landlord for more information.
A disabled facilities grant award can include:
- Stair-lifts, ramps and handrails
- Bathroom and kitchen adaptations
- Heating system improvements
Sometimes adaptation work is necessary, but is not covered by legislation. We have discretionary disabled facilities assistance for this which can include:
- Adaptations to provide necessary treatment facilities
- Adaptations to allow a person with disabilities to be able to work from home
- Storage for a wheelchair
