If you have been asked to leave your home, or are looking for a home, we’re here to help.
If you're 16 or 17 and have been asked to leave your home:
- We will contact your parents / guardian for you and if they tell us you can’t go home and there is no other family who can help we will contact Children’s Services for you and you will receive a joint assessment with us and them.
- At first, this will be to confirm the situation and to talk about what’s happened. We will then try to reach an agreement between you and your parents to see again if you can return to your family home if it is safe for you to do so.
- If you can go home, then we will not have a duty to provide any accommodation for you, but can still give you advice. If you can go home, but only on a temporary basis, we will continue to work with you to look at your housing options for the future.
- If you can’t go home at all then we may offer you temporary accommodation.
If you are looking for your own home:
- If you are able to stay with your parents, but would like to find somewhere else to live, we can give you advice on how to do this. When looking for somewhere to live it is always important to think of how you will afford it.
- Remember to consider rent and all other bills. These would include things like water, gas, electricity, Council tax and more. Also consider food bills, your mobile phone and any social activities. If you don’t pay your rent and other household bills you will lose your home.
