We will be carrying out essential website maintenance in the afternoon which will affect some functionality. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience the work may cause and will do all we can to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

Protecting Critical Infrastructure

Summary (optional)
The Old Colwyn coastal defence project will protect critical infrastructure as well as the promenade.

As well as being a valuable asset in its own right, the promenade also carries or protects important infrastructure:

  • coast road
  • National Cycle Route 5
  • main trunk sewer serving a large section of Old Colwyn
  • main London-Holyhead railway
  • A55 Expressway

If a catastrophic collapse of the sea wall took place at the start of a series of large storms, all this vital infrastructure could be at risk.

The Council is working with the Welsh Government and a number of other key stakeholders to provide the solution to minimise these risks.
