Many households in Wales rely on heating oil or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) to heat their homes, particularly in rural areas. Rising fuel prices due to the conflict in the Middle East have placed additional pressure on household budgets.
The UK Government has provided £3.8 million to the Welsh Government to support households in Wales who rely on heating oil or LPG.
Help with heating oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG)
A one-off payment of £200 is now available to low-income households in Conwy County Borough Council that use these fuels. This targeted support is intended to help residents manage these increasing costs.
If you are eligible for the Council Tax Reduction Scheme because you are on a low income, and you rely on heating oil or LPG to heat your home, you are eligible for a one-off £200 payment.
What do I need to do?
If you are already receiving Council Tax Reduction and your home is not connected to the gas grid, we will contact you directly and invite you to apply. You will be asked to confirm your heating fuel type by supplying us with an invoice from within the last 12 months and provide bank details.

How long do I have to apply?
You must be in receipt of Council Tax Reduction, or have applied successfully for Council Tax Reduction, between 1 April 2026 and 31 July 2026. You should then apply for the heating oil and LPG support as soon as possible. The latest date for applications is 30 September 2026.

Before applying, make sure you have a copy of your heating oil invoice or receipt from the last 12 months and a copy bank statement clearly showing your bank details.
The scheme is now open for applications. Please note that payments will not be issued until mid July 2026.
