Welcome

Welcome to the Conwy Employment Hub Annual Report for 2022-23.

"We finally saw the end of all Covid restrictions in Wales in May 2022 but the year continued to be a challenge for all of us with the rise in all household bills resulting in the Cost of Living Crisis.

"We all felt these increases, but particularly those on a low income or those on Universal Credit, but I am proud of how my team quickly responded to ensure we could offer meaningful help.  Businesses and organisations that could offer practical help or financial support were researched and this information was used to create a Cost of Living Toolkit which was used by our mentors and also shared with other organisations.  We also held a number of successful Cost of Living drop-in events across the county, inviting relevant organisations to attend to ensure that whatever the issue was for Conwy residents we could offer support and guide them to where practical and/or financial help was available."

"The biggest challenge though was for businesses and recruitment.  For the first time in years there were more vacant jobs than there were job seekers.  This presented job seekers with some wonderful opportunities, but it highlighted a miss-match between skills demand for vacancies and the skillset of those searching for new jobs.  We were again quick to respond to this by partnering with a number of businesses and organisations to run sector specific training Recruitment Pathways that work on upskilling our participants to fulfil the needs of the local economy.  We also organised the first all-sector Job Fair for Conwy in May, and a dedicated Careers Fair for 16-24 year olds in March."

"We are fortunate to have secured additional funding from the Welsh Government so the year ahead will be just as busy in supporting and helping Conwy residents find meaningful employment."
