Community Engagement

With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions the Hub restarted its community engagement programme.

Having face to face meetings and being at the heart of the community is a fundamental aspect of the Hub's work and the support it offers in helping those that are unemployed get in to employment, or provide them with the training they require to obtain the skills they need for working.

In June 2022, the Hub's mentors and advisors ran weekly drop-in sessions at various community centres, libraries and family centres targeting the key areas where Conwy residents needed the Hub's help the most.  The drop-in sessions were an opportunity for people to talk about the issues they were facing, whether it be lacking in confidence, benefits advice, help in finding a job or training to build skills.

The Hub also held Job Clubs at Canolfan Dewi Sant in Pensarn and Ty Llywelyn Community Centre in Llandudno to offer more personalised support in finding employment. This included help in writing a CV, job applications and preparing people for interviews as well as support getting online.

In addition, the Hub also attended weekly Ukrainian resettlement clinics and meetings at Medical Centres as well as local hotels to offer whatever help and support was needed for those looking for work.

Many Ukrainians are highly skilled but their qualifications are not compatible with the UK system, and there is the additional barrier of the English language.

Working with Careers Wales, the Hub was able to deliver a fast track recognition and alignment of Ukrainian qualifications as well as introducing English courses. which resulted in a high number of Ukrainians signing up to the Hub's programmes.
